Energy Management for Smart Grid using DSMS

Mr. Akshay Shirole, Dr. Durga Sharma, Dr.Soorya Prakash Shukla

Year: 2024 | Conference Paper | Publisher: Scitech Conference Xplorer

Abstract:

The growing use of renewable energy, especially wind and solar, in power generation has sparked the development of distributed generation and demand-side management concepts. However, integrating these variable sources into distribution networks poses challenges in maintaining steady power supply and handling load fluctuations. This study aims to design a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system with demand-side management to tackle these issues. The proposed algorithm seeks to equilibrate consumption by considering resource production levels and incorporates various loads to reduce frequency and voltage fluctuations in the distributed network's busbars, allowing for soft load switching. The energy management algorithm is crafted to improve customer satisfaction by taking into account user comfort and cost-effectiveness while ensuring energy continuity, reducing power loss, and restricting changes in bus voltage and frequency. The research introduces a novel approach to demand-side management by employing the Mamdani fuzzy decision-making algorithm for intelligent decision-making and the design and control of electrical loads to mitigate busbar voltage and frequency variations. This innovative solution for smart grid energy management contributes to the progress of renewable energy integration and the creation of efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly power systems.

Year: 2024 | Conference Paper | Publisher: Scitech Conference Xplorer

Abstract:

Power electronics technology has advanced in recent years and is now employed in many different applications. Moreover, this gadget contributed to the electrical system's power quality issue. One example of a non-linear load that generates harmonics of current on the utility side is an arc furnace. Other examples include variable frequency drive (VFD), personal computers, as well as fluorescent lights. Power quality is a significant problem on the consumer and distributed sides. the reactive power compensation and improvement capabilities of the active power filter. The harmonics problem that is caused by nonlinear load is the topic of discussion in our project. For the purpose of removing harmonics from loads that are not linear, shunt active filtering techniques are used, whilst hysteresis power controllers are utilized in retrieval approaches for the purpose of controlling current. The notion of instantaneous reactivity (PQ) has been used throughout the whole of the process of developing our reference current. Through the use of the MATLAB Simulink toolbox, the simulation outcome of SAPF utilizing PQ concept is carried out. The project is concluded with a description of the SAPF system's efficiency in reducing harmonics and enhancing power quality.
